PFCU Honors Veterans Through Community Flag Retirement Program
Mid-Michigan – As Veterans Day approaches, PFCU is honoring the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans by highlighting a community effort that helps ensure American flags are retired with the dignity and respect they deserve.
Since January 1, 2026, PFCU members and community members have placed 288 American flags in flag retirement boxes located in PFCU branch lobbies. Collected flags are provided to local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) posts, where they are respectfully retired during proper flag retirement ceremonies.
When an American flag becomes worn, faded, or tattered, the U.S. Flag Code calls for it to be destroyed in a dignified manner. By providing flag retirement boxes at its branches, PFCU offers community members a convenient way to ensure flags are handled respectfully while supporting a tradition closely connected to service, sacrifice, and national pride.
In recognition of Veterans Day, PFCU encourages anyone with a worn or damaged American flag to bring it to any PFCU branch location for proper retirement. The program is available throughout the year, providing an ongoing opportunity for the community to honor the American flag and those who have served to protect the freedoms it represents.
“Thank you to all veterans for your service and sacrifice,” said Joe Kreiger, Executive Vice President at PFCU. “We are proud to honor you not only on Veterans Day, but throughout the year by supporting veteran organizations and helping our communities continue traditions that demonstrate respect for our country and those who have served it.”
PFCU extends its sincere gratitude to veterans throughout the communities it serves and across the country.
