Press Release
Niles Industrial Coatings Partners with Fenton and Linden High Schools to Launch Successful Pre-apprenticeship Program
Fenton, Michigan – May 15, 2025 – Niles Industrial Coatings is proud to announce the successful completion of its pilot Pre-apprenticeship Program, in collaboration with Fenton and Linden High Schools, for students interested in pursuing careers in the trades. This innovative work-based learning program has provided students with a unique opportunity to gain valuable skills and certifications, preparing them for a future in the trades industry.
The Pre-apprenticeship Program, launched during the Winter semester of 2025, and integrated classroom instruction with hands-on training. Students engaged with the nationally recognized and state-certified Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3), an apprenticeship readiness training designed to prepare students for careers in the skilled trades. Some of the topics covered include safety, tools and materials, and construction math. The students also completed 125 hours of hands-on training with Niles Industrial after school. Throughout the program, participants achieved several key certifications, including OSHA 10, CPR, and First Aid.
In addition to these certifications, students received extensive training in various areas, such as roofing, scaffolding, and painting. Field trips to the Roofers Union and Painters Union training centers provided students with hands-on experience in shingling, heat welding, using safety harnesses, and virtual paint spraying. Additionally, the students contributed to the community by painting a building at a local non-profit organization.
The pilot program has proven to be a resounding success, with 4 out of the 6 participating students expressing their desire to pursue careers in the trades upon graduation. Notably, 3 of these students plan to join Niles Industrial, with 2 entering the roofing union and 1 taking on another role within the company.
"We are thrilled with the outcomes of this pilot program," said a representative from Niles Industrial Coatings. "The students have shown remarkable dedication and enthusiasm, and we are proud to have been a part of Unlocking their Potential and excited to welcome some of them to our team after graduation. This program has not only equipped them with essential skills but also provided them with a clear pathway to a rewarding career in the trades."
Niles Industrial Coatings is committed to continuing this program and expanding opportunities for future students. The success of this pilot initiative underscores the importance of work-based learning programs in preparing the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
